We’re pleased to announce that our very own Geoff Sanders won the Charter Champion Award for Health and Safety.
Canterbury Rebuild Safety Charter wrote an eNewsletter article about his commitment to Health and Safety, see below:
Family Tradition of Health and Safety
When Geoff Sanders was nominated by Health and Safety Manager Dougal Holmes from Maiden Group for a Canterbury Rebuild Safety Champion Award word got out to Geoff’s dad.
Dave Sanders made sure he was at the August Charter event to see Geoff accept the award.
Health and Safety runs in the Sanders family. Dave has enjoyed a long career in the electrical industry and seeing colleagues getting injured was his motivation to embrace Health and Safety.
“The moment that I really woke up to health and safety was seeing one too many accidents, seeing the hospitalisation of one of my guys. I started to seek out opportunities within my organisation to learn about and really apply health and safety. Health and Safety is in everything we do, it runs through every aspect of any organisation. The whole aim of health and safety is getting everyone home safely; people don’t come to work to hurt themselves.”
Geoff adds, “Often our toolbox talks are about exactly that, we say to our guys, “If you see someone doing something unsafe pull them up and tell them; “Mate I care about you, I want you to go home safe.”
Getting a Charter Champion Award was a proud moment for both.
“I wanted to see Geoff get the certificate because it’s a proud moment for me as a dad. I told Geoff I was going to sit up the front and when he went up to get his award I was going to call out, “That’s my boy!” laughed Dave.
It’s great to see a passion and commitment to excellent health and safety practice passed along from one generation to another. Well done Sanders family!
